Unser Team in Kapstadt

BeadsOnWire arbeitet in enger Partnerschaft mit qualifizierten Kunsthandwerker*innen aus Kapstadt zusammen. Unsere Kunsthandwerker*innen arbeiten als kleine Einzelunternehmen. Sie zeichnen sich aus durch grosse Kreativität, Flexibilität und Motivation für unsere Produkte die für sie immer wieder Neuland bedeuten – da es zum Beispiel keine Biber in Südafrika gibt.

Sie alle sind aus Zimbabwe nach Südafrika immigriert und haben dort eine Nische gefunden, um ihre kreativen Talente zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Dass dies durch unsere Zusammenarbeit nun auch in Europa möglich ist, freut uns aussergewöhnlich!

BeadsOnWire works in partnership with various highly skilled craftsmen and women from Cape Town. Our wire artists are self-employed, dynamic and motivated people who really love their work. They are all immigrants from Zimbabwe who have found a niche for themselves through which to express their artistic talents in South Africa (and now in Europe too!) BeadsOnWire is an important source of financial income for our team of artists and we at BeadsOnWire are very proud to be in partnership with them.

Joe kommt aus Kapstadt, Südafrika, eine Region, die weltbekannt ist für ihr kreatives Kunsthandwerk
und -gewerbe. An der Universität Kapstadt hat Joe den Bachelor in Politikwissenschaften und Anthropologie abgeschlossen. 2013 ist Joe in die Schweiz gezogen und hat seither Wege gesucht, um Südafrika und die neue Heimat zu verbinden. Das Konzept von BeadsOnWire wurde dabei inspiriert: Wir lassen lokale europäische Tiere aus dem detailgetreuen und versatilen Kunsthandwerk mit Draht und Perlen herstellen, welches in Südafrika weit verbreitet ist und allseits geliebt wird. Dieses traditionelle und wundervolle Kunsthandwerk aus Südafrika mit Europäer*innen zu teilen ist unsere grosse Motivation für BeadsOnWire.

Joe comes from Cape Town, South Africa, a place rich in wonderful arts and crafts of all kinds. He has a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Anthropology from the University of Cape Town. Since moving to Switzerland in 2013 he has been exploring ways of linking South Africa with his new home. This inspired his concept of making local European animals out of the already well developed bead and wire art form that South Africans have come to love. Sharing South African arts and culture with Europeans is our main motivation at BeadsOnWire.

Noch als kleiner Junge hat Malvern damit angefangen, Motorräder und Helikopter aus Draht herzustellen und diese an Touristen an der Grenze zwischen Simbabwe und Südafrika zu verkaufen. Mit den Einkünften daraus konnte er seine Mutter und vier Brüder substantiell unterstützen. Malverns grosses Talent für Kunsthandwerk aus Draht und Perlen sowie der Antrieb, damit die Grundsteine für eine bessere Zukunft für seine Familie zu legen haben ihn schliesslich nach Kapstadt gebracht. 2009 konnten ihm seine Frau Deliwe und ihre zwei Söhne folgen. «Mir geht es nicht um die grossen Dinge. Das Einzige, was ich mir wünsche, ist ein normales Leben zu leben und damit meine Familie zu ernähren.» sagt Malvern. «Meine Arbeit nehme ich sehr ernst. Ich mag sie. Mein grösster Traum ist es, nach Möglichkeit ein Stück Land in Simbabwe kaufen zu können und dort ein eigenes Zuhause aufzubauen.»

A humble man from humble beginnings. Malvern began crafting wire motorbikes and helicopters to sell to tourists across the border in South Africa when he was still a young boy in his native land, Zimbabwe. Everything he earned went to supporting his mother and four brothers. He has been making arts and crafts his entire life and his talents took him to Cape Town with a strong desire to build a better future for him and his family. In 2009, Malvern was able to bring his wife Deliwe and two sons to live with him in Cape Town. "I’m not after big things. All I want is to live a normal life and give my family food“, says Malvern.

"I’m very serious about my job. I like my job. If I have the opportunity to get a plot in Zimbabwe, it’s my greatest dream to build my own home and to get to pay it off.”

Favourite wire animal: The Chicken

Antony ist ein Mann mit tausend Talenten. Er hat auf Baustellen gearbeitet, als Maler, Sanitär oder Verkäufer. Mit dem Kunsthandwerk aus Draht und Perlen hat Antony 2005 aber seine wahre Bestimmung gefunden. Kreatives Talent verbunden mit grosser Hingabe zeichnen Antony aus und ermöglichen ihm, ein neues Leben in Kapstadt mit Frau und Sohn aufzubauen.

Antony is a jack of all trades. He has experience in many kinds of jobs from construction, paint spraying, plumbing to working as a salesman. He found wire crafts in 2005 and hasn't looked back since. Antony has used his dedication and talents in wire art to build the life he now enjoys in Cape Town with his beloved wife and son.

Peters akademischer Werdegang sowie seine Liebe zum Detail und aussergewöhnliche Fähigkeiten als Manager geben ihm eine besondere Stellung in der auf Draht und Perlen spezialisierten Kunsthandwerkszene von Kapstadt. BeadsOnWire darf sich glücklich schätzen, ihn mit an Bord zu haben. Peter behält die Produktion unserer Drahttiere im Überblick und sichert deren Qualität und Beständigkeit. Seit mehr als zwanzig Jahren beschäftigt sich Peter in diesem Sektor und investiert nebenbei alles in seine Hochschulausbildung.

Aus Simbabwe hat Peter eine Ausbildung in Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, Marketing und Verkaufsleitung in der Tasche. Seit seinem Umzug nach Kapstadt hat er an der Universität des Westkap ein höheres Diplom als Manager gemacht sowie ein weiteres Diplom in Marketing an der technischen Universität des Kaps abgeschlossen. Sein nächstes Ziel ist nun ein MBA (Master of Business Administration).

Peter und seine Familie leben in Kapstadt. Seine Frau Loveness und er sind stolze Eltern zweier Söhne, die beide an der Universität studieren.

Peter is a studied, intellectual man. His attention to detail and management skills set him apart in the Arts and Cratfs world. BeadsOnWire is very fortunate to have Peter overseeing the quality and reliability of the production of the wire animals that we are so proud to bring to you. Peter has been involved in African arts and crafts for over 20 years and has simultaneously been committed to furthering his tertiary education throughout that time.

In Zimbabwe, he completed a Public relations, marketing and sales management qualification (LCCI).

Since moving to Cape Town he has graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Management from the University of the Western Cape as well as a marketing diploma from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in April 2015. His goal is to enroll for an MBA in the near future. Peter is married to his wife, Loveness who lives with him in Cape Town and they have two sons who are both at university now.
